The Trieste Encounters on Cognitive Science (TEX) are a yearly summer initiative by SISSA, aiming at bringing together scientists from all over the world at all levels of their careers to enjoy science, sunshine, food&wine and, ultimately, life.
TEX2018 hosts the summer school Under the Surface of Memory Phenomena, the first activity of the Innovative Training Network M-GATE - Memory Research: Ground-breaking, Applied and Technological Exchanges. The idea is to introduce and discuss foundational concepts in memory research, in particular as it relates to the temporal lobes, from human to rodents, from the behavioural to the single-unit level, leading to theory and to computational and mathematical models. The lecturers include Tim Shallice, Faraneh Vargha-Khadem, Edmund Rolls, Sheena Josselyn, Steffen Gais, Lisa Genzel, Paul Frankland, Liset M De La Prida, Karim Benchenane, Elisa Ciaramelli, Emilio Kropff, Freyja Olafsdottir, Christophe Bernard, Francesco P Battaglia.
The school is aimed at 15 M-GATE trainees, but is open to more participants. PhD students can apply to be allocated one of another 15 places in shared accommodation, at cost (340 Euro per 10 nights).
Embedded within the school, on June 30, several top theoretical neuroscientists are joining us for the symposium Remembering Daniel Amit, and Beyond, to talk about the legacy of our late colleague / mentor, who forged a strong latch between physics and the neuroscience of memory.
A tentative daily Programme (on the left) will be refined in due course, but keep in mind that informal interactions will be shared throughout the time at SISSA, and on July 1st also somewhere else (bring walking shoes and a swimming attire). Come join us!
