Social Event and Social Dinner

Visiting Miramare Castle:

As part of the event’s social program, participants are invited to join a guided tour of the magnificent Miramare Castle and its surrounding park, one of Trieste’s most iconic landmarks.
Overlooking the Gulf of Trieste, the 19th-century castle was built for Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian of Habsburg and is renowned for its elegant interiors, rich history, and breathtaking sea views.
The visit will also include a stroll through the beautifully landscaped park, home to rare plants, fountains, and scenic paths. An ideal setting to relax, connect with other participants, and enjoy the natural and cultural heritage of the region.

The visits are scheduled on Wednesday 26th at 16:20/ 16:30 / 16:40. We will all meet at the ticket office of Miramare Castle 15 minutes earlier than the first entrance.

Social Dinner:

For participants who registered for the social dinner, the dinner will take place on Thursday, 27 August, at 20:00 at Ristorante Caffè San Marco

As stated on the plate at the front door, this coffeehouse was founded in 1914. It is one of the many historic coffeehouses present in the city and has long been associated to the intellectual life and the coffee culture of Trieste. Inside, you will find an Asburgic-style restaurant, with a wide choice of cakes and desserts from the Mittle-European tradition, and a library that is reminiscent of the literary culture of the place. Indeed, Caffè San Marco has been a meeting place for many writers, foremost among the others Italo Svevo and James Joyce.
For the dinner, there will be either a standard menu or a vegetarian/vegan option for those that requested it.

To reach the place, it is a 10 min walk from Piazza Oberdan. Follow the main street (Via Carducci) in the opposite direction with respect to the station and turn left on Via Battisti after a couple of minutes.
